Choosing a new home is a challenge at any stage of your life. You need to find a home that is not just the best but is the best for you.

At The Millings, we believe that “good enough” isn’t good enough-you deserve OUTSTANDING care, that is why we have been awarded two consecutive OUTSTANDING ratings by the Care Quality Commission. But nothing is done at The Millings purely to tick a box or pass an inspection. The opinion we value most is yours.

Our values permeate everything we do and our staff take genuine, immense pride in the care they provide putting our residents at the very heart of everything we do.

Who we are

Based in the heart of the charming market town of Bedale, also known as the gateway to the Dales, The Millings is a beautiful former rectory that has been renovated to the highest standards.

Offering rooms for 36 residents, we believe our homes are the perfect size; large enough to provide all the facilities and services you require, small enough to retain a personal and homely feel.

We have an open-door policy, where visitors are always welcome and the kettle is always on.

The decision to move to a residential home is never taken lightly. Choosing a home with the facilities and environment that suit each individual is extremely important.

That’s why we encourage you to visit our homes and see for yourself if we are the perfect fit for you and your needs. It’s all about what home is best for you.

Some potential residents like to come for a short stay first to see what life at the home is really like. We find this removes any fear of the unknown for them and gives families peace of mind that their loved one is fully involved in decisions about their future. After all, if you are going to uproot an 80-year-old tree and plant it somewhere else you have to be a very skilled gardener.

Why Us?

happy-residents

Our family values are at the heart of everything we do. We believe this is reflected not only in the care we provide but the caring environment at both of our homes.

Real friendships and strong relationships grow and thrive at our homes between our residents, our staff and extended family and friends.

Creating this sense of community is paramount to us. We are constantly striving to improve to ensure we provide high-quality bespoke care to everyone.

This has been reflected in our back-to-back Outstanding rating by the Care Quality Commission inspectors.

What Makes us Different?

The Millings is so much more than a stunning former rectory steeped in history. It is a beautiful place to wake up every morning, with a family atmosphere, where everyone from the maintenance team to the cook, and from the housekeeper to the director, are dedicated to a warm, welcoming ethos where people belong and feel valued. This is evidenced in our Customer Satisfaction ratings which are some of the highest within the UK.

We aim to provide a vibrant community where everybody thrives and lives the life they choose. We are proud of the strong, positive relationships that develop between staff and the people who make our home what it is.

We feel The Millings is small enough to know individuals’ preferences and large enough to offer choice and variety.

Making new memories together

So what’s the atmosphere like at our homes?

One visitor described it as: “Like a big cuddle as you walk through the door; I just want to kick my shoes off and make myself at home.”

We strive to make your transition as smooth as possible so we find out as much as we can about you; your life, family, likes and dislikes, hobbies, interests, wants and wishes. We also respect and will support you in your religious beliefs.

We realise the importance of mealtimes, so we ensure dining experiences are as sociable as you wish. You can eat in your own room, in small groups in our garden room or in our main dining room. You decide.

From the home décor to its immaculate cleanliness, to the freshly-cooked food to every activity and trip, you can't miss the pride we take in everything we do.

Unlike some care homes, our gardens are walked upon every day and used as another room. Many of our community enjoy watering and pruning as they did in their own gardens lending an invaluable hand to our gardeners.

We believe that if it matters to you, it matters to us so we put you at the centre of everything.

This feeling of community is highlighted on our public notice boards where our residents put forward new ideas for trips and journeys together, ranging from the seaside to the local prison!
